Workshop Goal
Digital library development has great potential for every member economy to transform digital divide into digital opportunity. This workshop intends to convene in experts to exchange their experiences on how to explore the ways in which digital libraries can accommodate the changes in further and higher education. In the workshop Chinese Taipei, the host of the workshop, also plans to share with APEC member economies their experiences of the practices on a national-scale Digital Archives Project.

Workshop Format
This five-day interdisciplinary workshop will include invited speeches by internationally recognized experts, oral presentations, and panel discussion sessions. In the first three days, it will offer a series of training courses including tutorials and practice experiences to interested participants who might not have much background in the area of digital libraries/archives. The last two days will be a joint conference meeting with ICDAT2002 (2002 International Digital Archive Technologies), http://www.iis.sinica.edu.tw/ICDAT02 a two-day international conference meeting with an emphasis on more advanced topics. All of the training courses and technical presentations will be focused on topics related to the digital library and archive technologies, especially their applications to e-learning including, but not limited to the following:

1.  Integration of digital library technologies in e-learning environments

2.  Digital library support for collections of learning resources

3.  Technologies and tools for advanced interoperable digital library systems

4.  New knowledge about archival storage and preservation

5.  Cooperation and collaboration of digital libraries

6.  Experience sharing of best practices in digital library development

7.  Applications of digital libraries in education and training environments

Workshop Venue and Date
The workshop will be held in the Academia Sinica, Chinese Taipei, on December 16-20, 2002.
