A. Title: Spatiotemporal
Infrastructure for Semantic Network in Digital Archives
B. Abstract
Space and time are essential elements for almost all the information of world phenomena. Disciplinary ontology
constitutes a system of (well-defined breadth and depth coverage) domain
knowledge. Human are inherent of the capability for acquisition and perception
of knowledge about space, wherever they are from direct experience or from
secondary environmental experience. Temporal
Characteristics is always embedded and could not be neglected. As the highest common factors,
space and time weave the network of interactions among disciplinary. By means
of feature identification, comparison, interpretation, and further integration
with other related resources, discovery of valid,
novel, useful, and understandable pattern in digital archives is more feasible.
A spatiotemporal infrastructure is composed of a temporal series of
(georeferenced) geospatial materials, a digital gazetteer system, and a
framework for the application of and integration base upon the previous basics.
Such infrastructure is constructing under the National Digital Archive Project
(NDAP) and other related projects in Taiwan. Persistent
cataloging, classification, and segmentation of digital objects is the ground
for finding patterns, models, and trends of large volume data, and serve as the
basics of NDAP for further exploration of knowledge from the archives.
Intersection of spatiotemporal
coordinates and lingual coordinate constitutes a good framework both for
knowledge extraction and interoperability for digital resources. Development of
a content structure made by space-time-language coordinates for NDAP is also
initiated.
