NSF NSDL: Where Are We and Where Are We Going?

Continuing the work of the Digital Library Initiative, the National Science Foundation is supporting projects that cover the Science, Mathematics, Engineering and Technology Education content areas. The National Science, Mathematics, Engineering and Technology Education Library (NSDL) offers, via the Internet, high-quality proven materials for science, mathematics, engineering and technology education.

This effort is designed to provide and support excellent educational materials for any and all students, teachers and the general public. The NSDL is expected to support education at all levels “including preK-12, undergraduate, graduate, and life-long learning by providing anytime, anywhere access to a rich array of authoritative and reliable interactive materials and learning environments.”

One of the next major questions that must be addressed for the Digital Library Initiative and NSDL in particular relates to the inclusion and participation by the international community.

This presentation will provide a current and historic overview of the NSDL with examples of engineering education projects. The serious questions of particular interest to the international community will also be presented.
