A Web-Based Resource Discovery Architecture for Digital Archive Systems

Abstract
In this paper we propose the resource discovery architecture to facilitate the interoperability among diverse digital archive system or other information systems. We follow Dublin Core as the standard of information exchange in the architecture. Considering the diverse metadata of archived contents, users can also define other metadata for exchanging information. Organizing catalogues for diverse contents is also considered in the architecture. We extend OAI to adopt catalogues exchange among archive systems. We define several protocol operations in the architecture. Based on HTTP, SOAP and XML, the information exchange among systems inherits the flexibility from the Web service.
