Abstract:
Today, World Wide Web is perhaps the largest piece of information artefact
collaboratively created by the mankind. Since Web grows and evolves
quickly, it is important to archive Web content for future references
and to provide useful services over the archived content. In this talk,
we will give an overview of the characteristics and trends of Web that pose
some challenges to digital archives. We will then present the different
Web mining technologies that can be adopted in digital archives to address
some of these challenges. These include Web content mining, Web
information
extraction and social computing. The talk will also cover some ongoing
web mining research by the speaker's research group.
