A password authentication scheme which adopts a conventional cryptographic concept is proposed. In our scheme, only a cryptographic master secret key is required. Each user is free completely to choose identities and passwords himself. A good performance is achieved when this scheme is implemented through the well-known and widely used cryptosystem DES.
