Special Issue on Customization of Software Engineering Principles for Rapid Mobile Application Development

Theme
Software Engineering is an application of systematic, disciplined and quantifiable approach to develop, operate and maintain the software. The software development activity is observed to have been implemented by combining the people, process and procedures. People apply procedures in a process to develop the software. The approach works very well for the large scale application development; however, the continuous evolution of the smartphones and the applications based on these platforms have opened up another dimension for the application of the software engineering principles

In the conventional software engineering, the process to develop the software have gained immense maturity while this is not the case in mobile application development. The need to address the challenge for identifying, practicing, and establishing the design and development principles for mobile applications is very evident to ensure that the development is systematic, trackable, and is based on mature principles. The prominent areas like risk management, cost estimation, requirement engineering for mobile applications are in a significant need for tailoring in the perspective of mobile application development.

This special issue welcomes the original contribution that addresses the requirement engineering, design principles, development standards across heterogeneous platforms, configuration management, and cost and risk estimation for the mobile application development. The comparisons with the large scale software development are also considered relevant in this SI. The areas of interest are listed but not limited to the following:

  • * Rationalization for software process for mobile application development
  • * Requirement engineering for mobile application development
  • * Social media as an influencer in software requirement engineering
  • * Application design for mobile applications
  • * Application design limitations and best practices
  • * Software development standards for heterogeneous platforms
  • * Process model development for mobile applications
  • * Usability vs functionality for mobile applications
  • * Mobile application design for specific areas (Healthcare, Learning etc)
  • * Security and privacy challenges in mobile application development
  • * Comparative studies on the conventional and mobile application development
  • * Comparison of large scale software development and mobile application development
  • * Innovative modelling for resource optimization in software projects
  • * Software risk management and failure reduction strategies
