[Creative Commons Taiwan]

Creative Commons Taiwan is an international cooperation project between the Institute and Creative Commons, a non-profit organization in the US. Creative Commons' first project, in December 2002, was the release of a set of copyright licenses free for public use. Taking inspiration in part from the Free Software Foundation's GNU General Public License (GNU GPL), however, Creative Commons licenses are not designed for software, but rather for other kinds of creative works: websites, scholarship, music, film, photography, literature, courseware, etc.

In 2003, Creative Commons started the iCommons project which has been dedicated to the drafting and eventual adoption of jurisdiction-specific licenses. The Institute joined the iCommons project in November 2003 and launched the Creative Commons Licenses in Taiwan in September 2004. After the launch, Creative Commons Taiwan has continued to work with creators, users, government bodies, and civil organizations to promote the use of Creative Commons Licenses in Taiwan.
