Abstract

In cities around the world, the growing demand for transportation due to the rapid pace of urbanization and growing population has become a key challenge. Thus, a major application domain being addressed by many smart cities programs worldwide is transportation. In this talk, we will discuss our work towards holistic Smart Transportation solutions in the context of the Smart Nation initiative in Singapore. We address two main aspects of Smart Transportation. First, we focus on the sensing, monitoring, and algorithmic techniques to improve the situational awareness of real-time urban traffic. Second, we develop participatory sensing techniques to obtain fine-grain mobility patterns and activity behavior from users. We will highlight our recent efforts which have been deployed in Singapore.
