Abstract

Mobile apps have emerged as the mainstream in consumer software industry. Many developers take the "start from small" strategy to gradually acquire the early adopters from a very competitive market. However, to data analysts, this strategy leads to some misconception that the data behind some toy-like apps are of low information density and value. In this talk, I share my personal experience in dealing with the data behind some apps, and show that some of the data analysis tasks are actually very challenging and subject to the well-known "Variety" and "Veracity" barriers of big data processing. Our results show that innovative perspective/models are a key for driving unfair business advantage.
