Semantic Language Processing with Common Sense

Abstract

In this talk, I will start by presenting three language processing tasks (sentiment analysis, abstractive summarization, and image paragraphing) that we have explored in recent years. I will then introduce Chinese ConceptNet and its potential for improving such NLP tasks.

BIO

Jane Hsu is a Professor of the Department of Computer Science and Information Engineering at National Taiwan University, where she served as the Department Chair from 2011 to 2014. As the Director of the NTU IoX Center, established in 2011 as the Intel-NTU Connected Context Computing Center, Prof. Hsu is leading the global research collaboration on Augmented Collective Beings to facilitate human-AI/IoT collaboration. With more than 30 years of experience in AI, her research interests include multiagent planning/learning, crowdsourcing, knowledge mining, commonsense computing, and context-aware smart IoT. Prof. Hsu has been actively involved in international conferences of AAAI, IEEE, and ACM, and served as the President of Taiwanese Association for Artificial Intelligence in 2013-14. She received the 2016 MSRA Collaborative Research Award as well as the Intel Labs Distinguished Collaborator Award.
