Research Descriptions

For multimedia and network analysis for social network applications and service, the research topics include data mining in multimedia and Virtual Reality (VR), adversarial attacks and compression on recommendations and computer vision, graph learning and group query, social query, detection and group therapy of social networks mental disorder, distributed social influence propagation, privacy preserving, viral marketing, and the corresponding applications and services. We also proposed a distributed mining framework for sensor networks and considered uncertain query optimization for mobile environments. The results have appeared in VLDB, KDD, ICDE,  WWW, CVPR, ICCV, NeurIPS, AAAI, MM, ICDM, CIKM, CHI, ICDCS, GLOBECOM, PAKDD, MDM, DASFAA, TKDD, TKDE, TMC, TMM, TSAS. Also, the results have been featured by MIT Technology Review, ACM TechNews, Phys.org, Popsci.com. In addition, the results have received PAKDD Best Paper Running-Up Award, Junior Research Investigators Award in Academia Sinica, K. T. Li Distinguished Young Scholar Award in ACM Taipei/Taiwan Chapter and Project for Excellent Junior Research Investigators in MOST and NSC.

For multimedia network optimization and services with distributed computation, the research topics include video synthesis and virtual reality with network and cloud/edge optimization, distributed federated learning, QoS multicast routing, network/cloud/edge resource planning for Virtual Reality (VR), and cross-layer design and analysis for multimedia traffic. Research results have spanned various kinds of networks, such as software-defined networks (SDN), heterogeneous wireless cellular networks, wireless mesh networks, peer-to-peer networks, satellite networks, Internet backbone, and wavelength division multiplexing (WDM) optical networks. Recently, we proposed a new 3D video multicast algorithm for LTE networks, multicast traffic engineering for SDN networks, a distributed green relay selection algorithm with cooperative communications, and a multicast routing algorithm with network coding. We also designed and implemented a new approximation algorithm for distributed mobile routing and a new video streaming framework for mobile handsets. The results have appeared in INFOCOM, ICDCS, ICNP, GLOBECOM, ICC, WCNC, VTC, ICME, MM, CHI, TPDS, TMC, TMM, TWC, TKDE, and TVT. Also, the results have received Best Paper Nominate of IEEE GLOBECOM, Best Student Paper Award of IEEE ICME, ACM CHI Best Paper Honorable Mention Award, Best In-Session Presentation Award of IEEE INFOCOM, ACM SIGGRAPH Asia Emerging Technologies Prize, Exploration Research Award in Pan Wen Yuan Foundation, and Career Development Award in Academia Sinica. He is a Senior Member of IEEE and a Distinguished Member (Distinguished Scientist) of ACM.
