        I am an associate research fellow in the Institute of Information Science, Academia Sinica (located at Taipei, Taiwan). My research interests include functional programming, programming languages and systems, XML and Web technologies, open geospatial information processing, and social implications of information technologies. I am jointly appointed at the Research Center for Information Technology Innovation, Academia Sinica, as an associate research fellow, and at the Department of Information Management, National Taiwan University, as an Associate Professor. I served as a deputy director of the Institute from July 2004 to September 2008.

        I was a guest researcher at the Department of Computing Science, Chalmers University of Technology, Sweden, before joining the Institute as an assistant research fellow in January 1994. I graduated with a BS degree in Computer Science and Information Engineering from National Taiwan University in 1984. I received my MS and PhD degrees in Computer Science from New York University in 1990 and 1993, respectively.
