Abstract

This talk focuses on the application of NLP to researches of Informetrics and explores the potential of NLP for humanities and Social Science (HSS) research fields. The basic concepts related to Informetrics will be introduced firstly which will be followed by the major issue of this talk: citation analysis. Four kinds of Author co-citation analyses (ACA), Traditional ACA (TACA), Distance ACA (DACA), Sentence-Similarity ACA (SACA), and Paragraph-Similarity ACA (PACA), will be discussed one by one in details. A series of experiments based on the four ACAs will be presented and the results will be discussed. Thirdly, how authors cite references will be explored by analyzing parts of speech of in-text citations. The trend of the citing behaviors will be uncovered.
