Research data must beprocessed, archived, interpreted, published, and madeavailableforre-use. At the same time, managing metadata standards and access to thoseraw datasets areequally important in terms of discoverability and interoperability.Persistent identifiers for people (researchers andcurators), places (research organizations, facilities, funders, repositories, and publishers)and things (such as equipment, facilities, publications and datasets) are acritical component ofany datasharing infrastructure.

As acommunity-drivenorganization, ORCID hasbeen in partnership with theinternationaldata community -including World Data System, DataCite, multidisciplinary repositoriessuch as the ORCID in RepositoriesTask Force and RDAWorkingGroups including PersistentIdentification ofInstruments and ESIP/RDAEarth, Space, and Environmental SciencesIG-to support FAIR (findable, accessible, interoperable, and reusable)data on alargescale to makethis vision a reality.In addition to providingaunique identifierforindividuals, ORCIDworks with research communities to enable connections betweenresearchers, their contributions, and the organizations that facilitate their work.Such efforts include reducing themanual process of maintaining up-to-date records by automated datasharing andimproving the acknowledgement of researchfacilities andequipment used to produceEarth observations data. For instance,The

Environmental Molecular Sciences Laboratory, Oak Ridge National Laboratory, and the Extreme Scienceand EngineeringDiscovery Environment (XSEDE) haveadopted ORCID and identifiers fororganizations, equipment, proposals, and datasets in theirfacilities access workflows.

In this seminar,wewillprovidean overview ofhow an open persistent identifier infrastructure can enable data management. Wewillconstruct thesession to facilitate aconversation amongall participants about managementchallenges, useofpersistent identifiers, andusecasesin data communities from global and regional perspectives.

Estelle is responsible forgrowing theadoption ofORCID,engaging with partners across sectors and establishing communities of practicein theAsia-Pacificregion. Based in Taiwan, Estelle works collaboratively with the community to promoteORCIDawareness, build strategic relationships and to support best practices of ORCIDimplementation across the Asia-Pacific region. Beforejoining ORCID, Estelleserved as theproduct manager for digital object identifiers (DOIs) at Airiti.
