Abstract
Biological discoveries are tightly dependent on technology. For
example, the inventions of microscopy and crystallography have
dramatically expanded our knowledge of the microbial world and
molecular structures; the advents of molecular engineering and PCR
have significantly enhanced our capability in molecular cloning and
DNA amplification to facilitate our understanding of how the gene
expression is regulated in the cell. Here comes the sequencing
technology of the post-genomic era. What can we expect from the
Next-Generation Sequencing (NGS) and the upcoming nanopore
sequencing? To address these questions, we need to know what the
sequencing technologies can do for us. During this talk, I will
discuss the applications of sequencing technologies in biological
investigations, especially for the studies of gene expression and
regulation in normal eukaryotic cells and dysregulation in cancer
cells. All are welcome.
