摘要

As mobile computer networks become ubiquitous, and mobile devices gain popularity and become deeply integrated with our daily lives, they provide an unprecedented opportunity for researchers to gain insight of individual's
mobility and usage pattern. On one hand, this allows researchers to construct more accurate and detailed models of user mobility and behavior. On the other hand, some of the observed patterns root from a deeper social structure, and can be leveraged to design more efficient data delivery protocols in mobile networks.

In this talk, we present the TRACE framework. This is a holistic methodology to collect, precess, and analyze large-scale network usage data. Based on realistic data, we present the important findings at different scales,
ranging from individual user's mobility to the inter-network structure of all users in the network. We further leverage these findings to design an efficient data delivery protocol, called CSI, to leverage the social
structure in mobile networks for better message routing decisions.

BIO

Wei-jen Hsu received the B.S. degree in Electrical Engineering and the M.S. degree in Communication Engineering from National Taiwan University. He received the Ph.D. degree from CISE Department, University of Florida in August 2008. After graduation, he joined Cisco Systems, Inc.

Wei-jen Hsu's main research interest involves collecting and mining realistic measurement data from wireless mobile networks, and utilizaing findings from the data in various tasks, including user modeling and
behavior-aware protocol design.
