A minimal introduction to AdS/CFT as a Quantum error correcting code

摘要

AdS/CFT is a well-supported conjecture that quantum gravity in 2+1 D is ‘dual’ to a 1+1 D CFT, which for our purpose is a strongly interacting condensed matter system. Despite its string theory origin, some of the key recent development can be understood without any strings, QFT, but only classical General Relativity, and most importantly quantum information ideas such as finite qudits and unitary group. In particular, we will introduce the quantum error correcting code aspects of AdS/CFT. Keeping only the minimal claims from physics, we will see how they are captured by a toy model, the ‘HAPPY code’, defined in the tensor network language which I will introduce. It explicitly showed how information in the 2D surface is isometrically embeds onto the 1D boundary, and moreover each subregion of the boundary still preserves some information about the bulk. For the CS minded audience, this is a quantum error correcting code with some sense of locality and geometry.
